The artwork that I made was a sculpture out of cups and I used a paper mache method to get the paper to stay on the cups. I also used white and red paint because I know that those two colors make each other pop more. And obviously the paints that I used were for spelling out "REDUCE PLASTIC", also I had my sculpture on a green base that's cardboard.
When I thought of making a sculpture out of cups I immediately thought of cups stacked and saying something as inspiration. An element of design that is used in my sculpture is texture because the paper mache that I used still has a rough sort of look to the cups even though I painted white over them. Another element that is used is color because I used red and white to make the sculpture stand out so that people would look at it and see the message that I'm trying to spread
When I was making this sculpture I was thinking about some global problem that needs to be addressed. I thought about the oceans because it was mentioned in class and I also do believe that we need to do a better job of protecting our oceans. The sculpture has no function, it should sit somewhere were as many people could look at it and hopefully realize if they are contributing to the matter or preventing it.
Yes, I do like my sculpture because the message is clear and has a very important meaning to represent. The process of making this sculpture did take some time because when I would put the paper mache on the cups I'd have to wait a day to paint them white then do the letters in red. Also when I was doing the letters on the cups, if I were to mess up I would have to wait a while for it to dry then cover it with white, wait again then redo it. So it wasn't always the most successful but the sculpture ended up good in the end.
